Workshop Description

06/22/24 | 2:30am to 5:30pm From the prints on our clothing, to the paper we wrap gifts with, to the bedsheets we sleep on, we are surrounded by pattern. Patterns add visual interest to surfaces and can dramatically alter the mood of an object or space, making it a key part of an artist or designer’s toolkit. Spend a morning immersed in all things surface pattern design, as you develop your very own repeating patterns to use in your art, craft or textile projects. In this 3-hour workshop, you will learn two approaches to making repeat patterns. Sarah will guide you through the design process and demonstrate how to carve your blocks. She will share tips and tricks to ensure a beautiful seamless print whether printing on paper or fabric. You will leave with several sheets of your own hand printed paper goodies, your carved blocks, and an ink pad to continue experimenting at home. This workshop is open to all skill levels - you do not need to be good at drawing to make interesting patterns! WORKSHOP DETAILS AGE APPROPRIATENESS: 14+ (if accompanied with an adult). LEVEL: Beginner, no previous experience necessary. ALL MATERIALS WILL BE PROVIDED Carving Tool Soft Rubber Brayer Screen printing Ink - Black, Blue, Red, Yellow, Green, Pink Soft Linoleum (4x6 inch) Paper All of our workshops include tea, coffee and something sweet.
